Why must paneer consumption be carefully managed compared to dal for supporting weight loss goals?
Paneer is naturally higher in fat than lentils
While paneer (Indian cheese) serves as a valuable source of vegetarian protein, its contribution to weight management differs significantly from lentils (*dal*). Lentils are primarily valued for their high protein and fiber combination while remaining relatively low in overall fat content. Paneer, being a dairy product made from curdled milk, inherently contains a higher concentration of fat, which consequently raises its caloric density per serving. Therefore, although it provides necessary protein, moderation is key; ordering richer preparations like *shahi paneer* or *malai kofta* should generally be avoided in favor of safer preparations like grilled *tikka* or incorporating tofu as a lower-fat substitute.
